Port Captain Services

An experienced master on the quay representing your interest through the whole call, not a report after it.

Most of what goes wrong in a port call goes wrong while it is happening, and it is decided on the quay by whoever is standing there. A surveyor who arrives afterwards can document the problem. A port captain present throughout can prevent it.

Our port captains supervise loading and discharge, oversee cargo handling and stowage, and coordinate between the vessel, the terminal, the stevedores and the port authority. They are experienced masters and chief officers, so they carry authority with the ship as well as the shore.

The value shows up in turnaround time and in cargo claims that never happen: stowage that was corrected before the tier was completed, a stevedore practice stopped before it damaged the tank top, a delay escalated to the right person early enough to matter.

Method

How we work

The same method at every port, so the report reads the same from one call to the next.

Pre-arrival briefing
Cargo plan, berth particulars and known local constraints reviewed with the vessel and the principal before arrival.

Attendance throughout
Present on the quay and on board for the operation, not sampling it, with a daily report to the principal.

Active intervention
Handling and stowage corrected as it happens, and damage or delay recorded with photographs and a protest where warranted.
04
Close of operations
Statement of facts, time log and final condition recorded and issued, so the demurrage position is documented from the ship's side.
